from a successful tour of South Africa last week.
Fans showed their complete allegiance to Macheso, chanting his slogan “zora butter” as he emerged on stage at the Harare Gardens.
And Extrabasso did not disappoint opting to start his set-list with a golden oldie “Varikidzo” much to the delight of the colourful crowd.
“Ndinotenda nerudo rwenyu rwemhando yepamusorosoro (Thank you for your love and support,” he said as he saluted the crowd.
The next song – “Baba NaMai” – again sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Earlier, Extrabasso had promised fans a good time and he delivered just that.
His dancers – Jonas “Baba Sophia” Kasamba and Franco “Slomo” Dhaka – mesmerised the crowd with their scintillating dances that left the crowd gaping.
Kasamba who used to have a pot belly has trimmed down a bit but is still good with dances while Slomo is facing stiff competition from the new kid on the block called Selemani.
Apart from this the Orchestra Mberikwazvo is still intact and agile.
The only person who did not show up as part of Extrabasso’s entourage was Tafadzwa Mapako, his better half who usually accompanies him to live shows.
Before Macheso hit the stage, fans had warmed up to a Dendera music performance by Tryson Chimbetu.
Man oh man, the boy is just good and you are reminded of the days of the late Simon and Naison Chimbetu, the pioneers of Dendera music.
The soft spoken singer went into a montage of the late Simon’s chart toppers such as “Pane Asipo”, “Chauta” and “Tenda” before sealing off his show with “One Way”.
Fans had a good time at the show – which started right on time – with face painting and pop corn for children.
Sunday afternoon shows are just what music lovers need especially those who are not the club going type.
