INIMITABLE lyricist and exciting choreographer Leonard Karikoga Zhakata will have to prove to his legion of fans in Mutare why he is one of the most respected musicians in Zimbabwe when he performs at The Platinum tonight (Friday).
The gig is part of events lined up for Africa Day commemorations in Mutare.
The charming musician will be performing alongside sungura heavyweight Alick Macheso in a potentially scintillating gig that is expected to draw thousands of music lovers from across Manicaland Province.
This is the first ever show pitting the two artistes, who have carved a niche for themselves in the music industry.
They will share the stage from 8pm till the last man drops.
Zhakata’s chartbuster album Maruva Enyika, which contains the hit Mugove, released in 1994 catapulted him to glory and since then he has been an entertainer-par excellence.
He stands as the youngest and the first Zimbabwean solo musician to sell more than 100 000 copies of an album. Nzombe Huru, Vagoni Vebasa, Ndingaite Sei?, Gotwe and Maruva Enyika are some of his greatest albums.
The releasing of last album Zvangu Zvaita saw the veteran guitarist successfully switching to gospel music, an experiment that won him more hearts and awards.
Backed by the Zimbabwe All Stars, the Rusape-born musician will have to be at his best to entertain the other section of fans, the Macheso devotees.
Baba Shero, as Macheso is affectionately known by his fans, has never disappointed before. He is expected to belt out a blend of old and new tracks from his much-awaited and forthcoming album yet to be christened such as Mundikumbuke, Sarah, Tafadzwa, Madhawu, Shedia and Madhuwe.
Show organiser Isau Mupfumi urged fun lovers to come and attend the show and have fun.
