ALICK Macheso celebrated his 56th birthday anniversary at Jongwe Corner in Harare on Sunday.
Despite the bitterly cold conditions, on one of the coldest days and nights in Harare this year, hundreds of his fans were at Jongwe Centre to celebrate with him.
Macheso is the leading light when it comes to sungura music in this country.
He is the ace in the pack and he has worked hard to build his brand and huge fan base in this country.
He is a humble man and that is why he is very popular because people don’t like celebrities who are flashy and who believe they are the beginning and the end of showbiz.

During his birthday celebrations, Macheso showed he cares for all his band members, including those who ended up taking a break, like guitarist Lucky Mumiriki, after he suffered a stroke.
Mumiriki, who suffered a stroke in 2011, attended Alick Macheso’s 56th birthday at Jongwe Corner on Saturday, where he was paraded on stage.
The talented rhythm guitarist suffered a stroke while performing on stage in 2011.
Macheso did not turn his back on Mumiriki and the music superstar has been contributing towards the guitarist’s welfare over the years.
Mumiriki can now talk and walk.
Macheso said he was grateful for Mumiriki’s recovery.
Macheso is set to release his latest album in August this year.
You can tell, even from the way he speaks, that this is a star who remains rooted in humility despite all the fame and fortune that has come his way.
Just a few days after Macheso paraded Mumiriki on stage, we had Zimdancehall chanter, Silent Killer, having an altercation with some street car cleaners in the heart of Harare.
The cleaners were demanding payment after washing his car.
What worried us was the way Silent Killer kept responding to questions from our journalist with incoherent answers.
It appeared he was living in a different world and he was distracted.
Therein lies our problem with a lot of our younger and emerging artists — their obsession with negativity.
