SCOTTLAND coach Norman Mapeza was a relieved man after the champions finally ended their dry spell with a 2-1 win over AGAMA at Wadzanai yesterday.
Tymon Machope, restored into the starting XI, and Walter Musona, scored in the first half before Grey Kufandada pulled one back for the hosts early in the second half.
The win settled the nerves for defending champions Scottland who went into the encounter with just one win in six matches. With the win, Mabvirarira moved to 21 points, five behind log leaders CAPS United who were held 2-2 by MWOS at Rufaro. “It was a good game of football,” said Mapeza “I think in the first half, we controlled everything. Then, in the second half, I spoke to the boys, you know we have been conceding in the first 30 minutes of the second half.
‘‘I told them we needed to be disciplined but, again, we ended up conceding again in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Then it puts us under unnecessary pressure.”
Scottland had a number of good chances to make it a comfortable win. Machope fluffed at least two while Abubakar Moffat also came close with a long range shot.
“I think we are moving in the right direction,” said Mapeza.
