Madangure dies

Madangure died at a hospital in South Africa where she was undergoing treatment for head injuries she sustained when she collapsed at her Mandara home in Harare.

Family spokesperson Dr Obadiah Moyo yesterday confirmed the death.

“We are expecting her body to be repatriated tomorrow (today) before burying her on Sunday at Warren Hills. She had been referred to South Africa for further management when she collapsed,” said Dr Moyo who is a brother to Mrs Madangure.

Dr Moyo described his sister as an enterprising person.
“She was a motherly figure who had a strong conviction in the development of her country. She was a well established businesswoman,” he said.

Mrs Madangure was one of few women to form a political party in the late 1990s.

She aspired to contest presidential elections but did not submit her name for election when the Nomination Court sat in previous polls. Her party claimed to champion black economic empowerment and respect for traditional authority. Mrs Madangure, who was a widow, is survived by four children.

Mourners are gathered at Number 22 Pringle Road in Mandara, Harare.
