Madanyika retains Bab chairmanship

WATSON Madanyika was re-elected unopposed as the Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) chairperson at an elective Annual General Meeting held at the weekend.

The Bab board members consisting of clubs and the National Association of Primary Heads, National Association of Secondary Heads gave Madanyika another four-year term in office.

The full executive sees Peter Gambiza retained his post as vice chairman while Rebecca Ncube is the secretary general.

Ncube is deputized by Caron Chashamba. The treasure is Elijah Ngorima, the women’s representation slot is held by Letwin Kudakwashe.

The committee members are Ngonidzashe Gasa, Benson Mwanza and Muzondiwa Funi.

Madanyika’s vision for the future is ambitious, with a focus on increasing the number of athletes from the province who qualify for international competitions, particularly the Olympics. He aims to provide athletes with better facilities and training opportunities through scholarships outside the country.

“I am grateful for the honour to serve as athletics chairman in the province. The main goal for me is to see more athletes qualifying for international competitions. We want to have our athletes running times which will we see them get scholarships outside the country where they will be able to train under better facilities.

“We also want to see an increased number of competitions. At least if we can have one or two track and field events that will be good for our athletes. We have a number of athletes that have got scholarships this year and l believe that is a sign of the work we are doing,” said Madanyika.

Some of the athletes that left for the United States of America this year are females Privilege Bower and Zinzile who are 200m and 400m hurdles specialists. Long distance runners Esnath Ndlovu and Lisel Ndlovu have also gone to the States.

For men, Charlton Siwela, Alpha Mpofu and Mthokozisi Mhlanga are also now based in the States.
