MADHUMENI/ABALIMISI for Agricultural Transformation has been launched at the Zanu PF Convention Centre in Gweru and immediately declared support for Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3.

Zanu PF Midlands provincial chairperson Cde Edson Chiherenge was the guest of honour at the event held on Saturday.

The affiliate, commonly referred to as Madhumeni/Abalimisi 4ED, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing national agricultural transformation in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision.

Cde Chiherenge commended the organisation’s growing national momentum in driving food security and rural development.

Addressing the members, Cde Chiherenge said he was impressed by the affiliate’s zeal to align with the ruling party’s development agenda, particularly in strengthening agricultural productivity and ensuring sustainable food and nutrition security.

He noted that agriculture remains central to Zimbabwe’s economic transformation, describing the work being undertaken by Madhumeni/Abalimisi 4ED as critical to achieving the country’s long-term development aspirations.

Cde Chiherenge said the Second Republic has created an enabling environment where civil servants could openly participate in national development initiatives that complement Government programmes.

He said this inclusive governance approach allows professionals in agriculture and related sectors to actively contribute to the implementation of developmental policies while continuing to fulfil their responsibilities in Government service.

“In the past such participation was difficult, but the current administration has created space for citizens and civil servants alike to actively support programmes that advance national development and food security,” he said.

Cde Chiherenge also took time to guide the affiliate on the importance of adhering to the ZANU PF constitution and organisational structures, urging members to ensure that their programmes remain aligned with the party’s guiding principles.

He said Madhumeni/Abalimisi’s vision resonates with President Mnangagwa’s broader agricultural transformation agenda, which seeks to guarantee adequate food and nutrition security while reducing reliance on food imports.

Zimbabwe, he noted, has already made significant strides towards food self-sufficiency, largely due to the commitment of farmers and the adoption of modern agricultural practices.

Cde Chiherenge applauded Madhumeni/Abalimisi’s structures across the country for their resilience and dedication to agricultural productivity, saying their work was contributing meaningfully to growing food security.

He particularly commended the affiliate for championing the “agriculture as a business” concept among farmers, a shift that is now yielding tangible dividends across rural communities.Madhumeni/Abalimisi 4ED chairperson Cde Peter Nyeredzi said the affiliate would continue to follow the direction of the ruling party and fully support the Government’s agricultural programmes designed to transform rural livelihoods.

Cde Nyeredzi said their activities are firmly aligned with priorities set out in the National Development Strategy 2, aimed at achieving Vision 2030 of an upper-middle-income society.

He said they welcomed the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, which, among other issues, proposes to extend presidential terms to seven years from the current five.

Cde Nyeredzi said the proposed constitutional amendments would allow the country to sustain the momentum on life-changing developmental initiatives, without diverting national resources towards frequent electoral processes.

“This creates the policy stability necessary for long-term agricultural transformation and rural industrialisation programmes to fully mature,” he said.

“With agriculture at the centre of rural livelihoods, the transformation agenda must remain focused and uninterrupted so that communities can fully benefit from the economic opportunities emerging in the sector.”
