THE Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, presided over the provincial launch of Madhumeni for Agricultural Transformation and Economic Development at Madondo Business Centre, Mutare South, this afternoon.
Minister Mugadza hailed the ZANU PF affiliate, saying their objectives are anchored on the goals and objectives of Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy (NDS) 2, particularly under Food and Nutrition Security.
He said under President Mnangagwa, agriculture has been positioned as a key pillar of economic growth, food security, and rural industrialisation.
Minister Mugadza cited flagship programmes such as Pfumvudza, irrigation rehabilitation, input support schemes, and value addition initiatives.
He said Madhumeni for Agriculture Transformation has a unique role to play in providing agricultural advisory services, helping farmers to improve productivity, access markets, manage risks, and grow sustainable enterprises, and resultantly transform agriculture from subsistence to commercial and export-oriented production.
The affiliate’s national chairman, Mr Peter Nyeredzi said this was their first provincial launch.
He said the affiliate was inspired by the development philosophy of ZANU PF, a call to action to transform agriculture at grassroots level so that it becomes the engine of national development.
Their vision is that no household should be hungry, every farmer should be empowered, land should be used productively, and the province should lead in food security.
The affiliate aim to promote timber, tea, horticulture, and hardworking citizens who should drive agricultural production, as well as modern farming technology and climate-smart agriculture at rural grassroots level.
Mr Nyeredzi acknowledged and appreciated the leadership of President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF through various empowerment programmes that have transformed the agriculture sector. He said the affiliate belongs to farmers, heroes who feed the nation, for the transformation of the agriculture sector, and to increase exports from Manicaland.
The Mutare South legislator, Tawanda Dumbarimwe, distributed sock chicks to 23 women’s league chair ladies, with each receiving 100.
