Harare Regional Magistrate Estere Chivasa has sentenced controversial prophet Gathry Chiredzero to 20 years in prison after convicting him of rape.

His wife, Diana Chauke, who was convicted as an accomplice to the offence, was sentenced to an effective 15 years’ imprisonment.

The couple had been jointly charged with the victim’s mother.

However, the court acquitted the mother after finding that the defence she presented was reasonably possibly true.

The court accepted that she had acted under intimidation after Chiredzero allegedly threatened her with a firearm.
