VETERAN musician, Somandla “Mafia” Ndebele, says he can’t wait to perform at the much-anticipated Sungura Fest next month.
The musical fête, which is set to be headlined by Alick Macheso, will be held at Pamuzinda Highway Xscape, on September 3.
Peter Moyo, Leonard Zhakata, Mark Ngwazi and MC Skywalker are part of the bill.
In an interview with H-Metro, Soma said he was delighted to share the stage with other prominent sungura musicians.
“I’m really excited to share the stage with my fellow musicians.
“It feels good to be recognised and acknowledged, among other big artistes.
“For me, it’s like a get-together show.
“I really can’t wait for the day,” he said.
Soma said that he has been longing to perform at such big shows.
“I have been longing for this opportunity to come.
“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were not able to line-up shows and meet up with fans.
“Now, it’s high time to resume showcasing our talents as musicians,” said Soma.
Asked whether he will be able to deliver a polished performance, he said:
“Shows are not about competition but they are all about pleasing fans and bringing fun.
“My concern is on delivering the best performance to fans, not to compete with other artistes.”
The show, which coincides with the last day of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show, is a bit special in that it will also mark Macheso’s return on home soil, after an international tour.
For Peter Moyo, this is the right platform for him to show his true credentials as a top sungura artiste.
Ngwazi has also been afforded another platform to shine and complement Macheso.
He will be under the spotlight after their comparisons, which have been raging for months.
