Gospel sensation Sabastian Magacha believes he is fulfilling his calling and wishes to win young souls for God through a school mentoring programme.
He started this initiative 12 years ago with the Sandringham High School Choir, and since then, he has been recording music featuring students.
Four years ago, he touched the hearts of many with the song “Abraham,” featuring infants from Avondale Primary School in Harare. The spiritually uplifting song’s accompanying visuals were on point, cementing Magacha’s role as a mentor sent to inspire future generations.
As a role model, counsellor, and worship enthusiast, Magacha has gone out of his way to ensure that he makes a positive impact on young people’s lives.
True to the scripture, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these,” Magacha is living his dream as a gospel musician with much to offer.
What has raised the appeal of his brand is his successful partnership with schools that will see him changing many lives.
The 39-year-old star is basking in the glory of his new track “Mudziyo,” featuring Chivaraidze Primary School and Minister Citah Angie.
To date, its accompanying video has garnered over 69,000 views on YouTube, hardly a week after its release.
In an interview, the multiple award-winning star vowed to continue empowering kids who are giving their lives to Christ.
“Working with the kids is something that I enjoy, especially on my latest project with learners from Chivaraidze Primary School, where I was also appointed brand ambassador. I have always done this work before. I enjoy working with them because you get to hear and feel them singing with their innocent and pure voices,” he said.
The hyperactive performer shared how it was, working with young learners from Chivaraidze Primary School, who are now trending on YouTube and other online platforms.
“I used to visit them for rehearsals after the school authorities contacted me for my services.
” There is a lot of talent at that school, and I just took one day to record with the choir and Minister Citah Angie on this album.
“I am glad that we have managed to come up with a polished project that many people have embraced as a triumph, especially those who have been following us online,” he stressed.
Magacha told The Herald Arts that he was taking the initiative further.
“As a Minister of the Word of God, it is my calling to take this initiative far and spread His word, and in my case, I am mainly focusing on children who have plenty to offer in the future.
“I will certainly visit other schools when contacted, but for now, I have been working with Chivaraidze Primary as their brand ambassador. Besides my busy schedule, I always make sure that I have time to interface with kids who need my expertise.”
Reflecting on his vision as a mentor and musical teacher, Magacha conceded that it is hard to understand children’s demands.
“When dealing with children, one needs to understand them since they come from different backgrounds.
“From my experiences, I have discovered that some kids who were raised in abusive environments need our help, and in my years working with them, I have also learned quite a lot. I will always do my best to ensure that I become a role model to young people and continue mentoring them,” he said.
Magacha, who has vowed to take his campaign countrywide, expressed his wish to work with organisations that handle children’s issues.
“In my initiatives, I am willing to work with other organisations handling these issues, to ensure that we prioritise the welfare of our kids. I am willing to continue giving children a voice to speak out and be heard. In my dealings with them, I now know how to bring out the best in them and help them overcome several challenges they might be facing in life.”
Added Magacha:
“Some of the kids from abusive backgrounds need special attention, and you need to be at their level when engaging with them. You might think you are at the same level, yet they have misunderstood you. What this means is that we need to be extra careful when handling children’s issues, and I am willing to learn more from them as time goes on.”
Meanwhile, Magacha is working on a series of singles due for release during the course of the year.
His dream is to come up with a full album this year, ending months of waiting for his fans. A talented songwriter, choreographer, and mentor, Magacha is one of Zimbabwe’s finest musicians with a soft spot for children.
In his career spanning nearly two decades, Magacha has shared the stage with top musicians, including Donnie McClurkin, Israel Houghton, Joyous Celebration, Keke from South Africa, Rebecca Malope, Deborah Fraser, the late Oliver Mtukudzi, Uche, and many others.
Magacha has also toured countries such as South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, and the United Kingdom.
