Magalane cack at Makepekepe and ready to guard the dream

WALLACE MAGALANE has waited long enough.
The goalkeeper is finally living the CAPS United dream that slipped through his fingers five years ago when the world shut down and football stopped. Now back in green and white, the 32 year old says he has unfinished business with the Harare giants.

Magalane first signed for Makepekepe in 2020 on a two year deal but never played a single match after the Covid outbreak halted the game. With FC Platinum heading into the Caf Champions League, he agreed to terminate the contract and returned to Zvishavane before he could even pull on the jersey.

He went on to add more silverware with the miners, picking up another league title in the 2021 to 2022 season and helping them win the Chibuku Super Cup. Now, he is back where he always wanted to be.

The Plumtree born shot stopper is in Malawi with CAPS United for their preseason tour and showed his quality on Sunday when he commanded the box in a 1-0 win over Silver Strikers at Silver Stadium in Bwandilo Area 47.

“Basically, I have always wanted to play for CAPS United,” said Magalane.

“You must remember that in 2020 I actually signed a two year deal with them. Unfortunately the Covid pandemic meant football would not be played.

“FC Platinum were supposed to play in the Champions League and they needed me back. I should salute CAPS United president Farai Jere for accepting our request to terminate the contract. That is how I left and returned to FC Platinum.”
Magalane says coming back now feels right and he wants to make a real impact this time.

“For more reasons than one, I knew I had to come back. I am happy I got this chance and I want to add value to the team. CAPS United is a big brand and I am here to safeguard what they stand for.”

He enjoyed one full season as first choice at FC Platinum in 2022 and earned a place among the Soccer Stars of the Year finalists, narrowly missing out on the top goalkeeper award. His pedigree has long been recognised by top coaches including Norman Mapeza, who worked with him for years.
Magalane believes the Malawi camp has given the squad a strong base ahead of the new season.

“I want to work on consolidating my strengths. This preseason tour has been exactly what I needed. It is a good starting point to be with your teammates every minute for two weeks in a foreign land.

“The chemistry we are building is good and I think we are already one unit. The bonding is coming out well and hopefully we will deliver trophies.”

CAPS United face Silver Strikers again tomorrow at the same venue before taking on another Malawian top-flight side on Sunday. They will then stop in Tete to play UD Songo of Mozambique on their way back home.

Makepekepe open their 2026 league campaign against newly promoted Agama, with Magalane now ready to finally write the chapter that was put on hold.
