Magistrate reprimands woman

A HARARE woman took her ex-husband to the Harare Civil Court claiming $80 000 maintenance for their two children.

Pretty Manyangamire claimed that her ex-husband, Arnold Mukozho, was neglecting his children.

However, Arnold told the court that he had remarried and was not employed.

“I do not work Your Worship. I am offering $30 000 since I have remarried and my new wife is expecting.

“I am not sure whether the kids are mine because she had an extramarital affair when we were still together,” he said.

But Pretty said $30 000 was not enough, and refuted the cheating allegations.

“It’s not enough, he must add up to $70 000. He works at a tuck-shop and earns U$180 per month.

“He is lying about me having an extramarital affair. Instead, he is the one who was cheating on me,” she said.

Pretty pleaded with the court that the maintenance money be paid through the police, saying she is an orphan and has no birth certificate or national identity card.

Presiding magistrate Sharon Mashavire deferred the matter to January 4 to give Pretty time to obtain a bank account.

The magistrate told her to be serious with her life and castigated her for not taking advantage of the mobile registration programme which took place countrywide in September.
