A 37-YEAR-OLD Silobela security guard manning Flint 10 Mine was assaulted by unidentified assailants and robbed of his firearm.
Leeroy Chatiza was attacked and left for dead by three armed robbers on Saturday morning.
“The police are investigating a robbery case where a 37-year-old Silobela man was robbed of property valued at US$450 during the early hours of 17 December at Flint 10 Mine in Silobela,” said Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
Insp Mahoko said Chatiza was on duty when he was approached by three men.
One of them reportedly struck him once on the head with an unknown object and Chatiza fired a warning shot, but the gang overpowered him and took his firearm.
They assaulted him until he became unconscious.
Chatiza later regained consciousness and informed the mine manager, who made a report to the police.
“The complainant sustained a swollen head, swollen right leg and left arm and was referred to Kwekwe District Hospital for treatment,” said Insp Mahoko.
“We are appealing to members of the public with information which may assist with the arrest of the suspects, who are at large, to approach any nearest police station.”
