Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) president Nqobile Magwizi has expressed disappointment over the absence of the Warriors skipper Marshal Munetsi and Jordan Zemura due to injuries.
In an interview Magwizi said Zifa engaged Wolverhampton Wanderers to release him for national duty but the club insisted that Munetsi was injured and would be out of the playing field for up to eight weeks.
“After this engagement we then asked Munetsi to get a waiver but that communication never came,” said Magwizi.
“In as much as we would love to have him in the team we cannot take the risk because this comes with responsibilities. If a player is injured while on national duty the association is obligated to meet all expenses and salaries until he recovers. Zifa has no capacity to do that hence we are bound by the contracts between us and the clubs.”
Magwizi’s comments come on the backdrop of reports that Munetsi released a statement alleging that he was fit to represent his country at the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
“We are a limping team because two of our experienced players will not take part in the tournament.
“We will have to go with the available players but we will surely miss Munetsi and Zemura,” Magwizi reiterated.
Zemura also released a statement wishing the Warriors success at the same time expressing his disappointment of not representing “the flag of your blood.”
“You work so hard to achieve the small wins in your career. You guve everything to the cause…Now at the final hurdle I have fallen, my body has given up, I guess that’s the cost,” Zemura wrote on his Instagram page.
