Gospel Musician Tatenda Mahachi, who recently performed at AfriGospel Unite Festival in South Africa, says the platform was important in promoting his career in the region. Mahachi has joined Rev TT Chivaviro, Mkululi Bhebhe, Takesure Zamar and other local musicians that are making impact across the Limpopo River.

Since collaborating with S’fiso Ncwane, Mahachi has performed in SA on several occasions and he was also on the line-up of last year’s AfriGospel Unite Festival.

He said, besides giving him a platform to work with other regional musicians, the festival has helped him to cultivate a growing fan-base.

“In the early days when I visited South Africa, I used to perform at events that were mainly attended by Zimbabweans, but a lot has now changed,” he said.

“Many South Africans and gospel lovers from other countries in the region now follow my music. My collaboration with S’fiso opened new avenues and I see the results every time I perform there.

“It was a wonderful night at the festival and when I joined S’fiso on stage, it was a magical moment and I was surprised by the response. I did not expect such feedback and it inspired me work on bigger projects with a regional audience in mind.”

The festival was held at Mandeni Stadium in Durban and attracted thousands of music followers.

It ran under the theme “Praising God the African way in Africa with Africans” and it featured artistes like Lundi Tyamara, Dumi Mukhostad ,Thina Zungu, Ncwane and Hhlengiwe.

According to online reports, about 15 000 people attended and Lundi was in his best, thrilling people with his old hits and showcasing good choreography.

The festival was also screened on One Gospel and Dumisa TV.

Ncwane performed songs like “Halleluya”, which drove people into worship spirit before introducing his new single for the forthcoming album titled “Glory Alleluya”.

He introduced Mahachi on stage and the duo did their duet “Ndinoda Jesu”.

Mahachi also performed his solo songs and thanked organisers of the festival for inviting him to take part at such a prestigious event.
