Scores of people from different backgrounds attended the burial of Zvenyika who died on Tuesday of heart failure.
Relatives and friends spoke glowingly of Zvenyika, describing him as a man of the people who loved and respected others regardless of his social standing.
Zanu-PF secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa said Zvenyika was a humble person and led by example other members of his family.
“When his father passed away, we were afraid if he was going to pull through and look after the family but he did well and was running the farm and businesses successfully,” Cde Mutasa said.
Cde Mutasa urged youths to emulate Zvenyika who did not put to waste his inheritance but was hardworking and trustworthy.
“We should keep praying for the Mahachi family on the loss of their loved one but I would like to assure the Mahachis that God is the only one who can answer our prayers and comfort us,” he said. Zvenyika’s friend,
Mr Mandikonza, said he worked well with him in growing potatoes at his Nyanga farm.
“We worked together in the Potato Seed Association and he was a dedicated farmer.
“We both had lost our fathers and encouraged each other to work hard to assist our families,” he said.
Mr Mandikonza said Zvenyika also assisted fellow farmers who did not have equipment.
Zvenyika used to assist communal farmers in his area with tillage services, especially farmers in Mutema and Nyafaro villages.
Among those who attended the burial were Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Constantine Chiwenga, Zanu-PF Politburo member Cde Victoria Chitepo, Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation
Development Minister Joseph Made, Minister of State Security, Sydney Sekeramayi, Zanu-PF secretary for Women Affairs Cde Oppah Muchinguri and Mavambo leader Dr Simba Makoni.
Zvenyika is survived by his wife Lizzy and four children.
