Moreblessing Ncube
THEY say if a deal sounds too bright to be true, it probably runs on imaginary electricity.
Nixon Kufangowenyu, had a life-lesson in this regard after buying sunshine and tyres that existed only in sweet promises and fast talk.
Sithembile Ncube (41) of Mahatshula suburb was in the dock for taking Kufangowenyu’s money after promising him solar panels and tyres, which she never delivered. The double dose of daylight robbery left her victim in the dark and on flat dreams.
Ncube appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Vimbai Chirai and was sentenced to 24 months in prison for fraud. Six months were suspended for good behaviour, another six months were suspended on condition she pays restitution and the remaining twelve months were swapped for 420 hours of community service at Mahatshula Primary School.
Prosecutor Mehluli Ndlovu told the court that on 24 August 2025 at 3 Avenue R Mugabe Way, Ncube claimed she had two 360 watt solar panels for sale. Kufangowenyu from Elangeni Training Centre believed the sales pitch and parted with US$100. The panels never arrived. Not even a shadow of them.
As if that was not enough sunshine, Ncube returned with another offer. On 27 May 2025 at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Robert Mugabe Way, Kufangowenyu trusted her with US$560 to buy Bridgestone tyres for a Toyota D4D. The tyres never rolled in and the money took a mysterious walk.
The court heard that all the money vanished without a trace. In the end the only thing delivered was a sentence in court.
