THE long road that popular gospel music outfit Mahendere Brothers has travelled in their music career has been re-told in a DVD compilation titled Mahendere Brothers Old Skool Videos.
The group made up of brothers, Amos, Michael, Misheck and Akim has been vigorously marketing the new DVD which comprises videos off some of their award-winning albums which they recorded in the past.
Although it is common that compilations of previous hits are made, this is probably one of the few instances in which the gospel music group has decided to catalogue their hits in video format to remind their fans of where they came from.
Watching the Mahendere Brothers Old Skool Videos, one is immediately struck by the artistry that the group has always been determined to maintain since they launched their professional music career close to two decades ago.
Befittingly, Mahendere Brothers open the DVD package with one of their earliest hits, Hupenyu Hwepanyika, which propelled them to stardom.
In the video, the vibrant performers led by Amos Mahendere are seen in their tailcoats getting down to some serious dancing, a feat which earned them the title of Vakomana Vemabhachi in music circles.
The videos also tell the history and inspiration behind the Mahendere Brothers who were inspired by their father who is still a key figure and anchor to the Chitungwiza-based ensemble.
Another video, Mabasa Enyama is outstanding because of the way that the artistes enacted what they were singing about in cinematic form such that the message is immediately hammered home.
Rumbidzo, Psalms 23, Pamwoyo Pamwoyo, Mumba MaMwari as well as other bonus tracks make up the rest of the collection.
Apart from this project, their previous visual release was the DVD Mahendere Brothers 2013 Collection.
