CELEBRATED praise and worship singer, Amos Mahendere, believes in innovation.

The 49-year-old believes veteran musicians need to release music, which appeals to the current generation of listeners.

An ordained church pastor, who now prefers the moniker Father Mahendere, the energetic performer believes most of the people, born in the new millennium, don’t relate to the stuff, which made them hit-makers back in the day.

Today, Father Mahendere will drop an amapiano praise hymn titled Pedyo Nemi.

It will have some accompanying visuals.

Judging by the track and video, which we have had the privilege to listen to and watch, Father Mahendere means serious business.

“In English, they say ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’, it’s the same principle I have decided to apply at the moment.

“To be honest with you, most of the youngsters don’t know that we once dominated the charts because they were not born.

“As such, we can’t afford to bombard them with stuff, which does not relate to them.

“I have decided to think outside the box and release something which can easily relate to them in the form of an amapiano praise hymn.”

Father Mahendere believes artists should adapt to change or face extinction.

“After consulting my team, I decided to record this hymn called Padyo Nemi, which will be available both on radio and online on Tuesday (today) going forward.

“I was recorded by DJ Panaxe, a Zimbabwean who is based in South Africa, since I was looking for an amapiano sound.

“I used one of those hymn books, which are not yet exhausted, and settled for the song Pedyo Nemi.”

He hailed his handlers and producers for giving him the green-light to experiment with new beats.

“I had to consult my team and the Shining Smiles Group of Schools, where I shot the video, helped me a lot on this project.

“My videographer, Ben Tike, and sponsor Zebadiah Andrew Zengeya were some of the people who made this project a dream come true.

“We spent over a US$1000 on the video and I am very glad that everything has gone according to plan.”

Mahendere is set to unveil a new studio at his Chitungwiza G-Extension home for the benefit of young artists.

His younger brother Michael is now a solo gospel artist and minister at Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa’s UFIC church.

His brother Misheck has settled well in South Africa as a producer in   Polokwane.

Father Mahendere is still in Zimbabwe doing music, business and other promotional jingles.
