THE two men accused of raping social media influencer Ashley “Mai Jeremaya” Masendeke have been acquitted after a full trial at the Harare Regional Court.
Thabo Blessing Dube and Martin Charlie breathed a sigh of relief as Magistrate Letwin Rwodzi ruled they were not guilty, citing lack of evidence and major inconsistencies in Mai Jeremaya’s testimony.
In a dramatic judgment, Magistrate Rwodzi said the encounter in question was a consensual, paid sexual arrangement and the complainant’s version of events failed to hold water in court.
“The State failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt,” she said. “The defence was consistent, plausible, and a conviction would be unfair and unjust.”
The ruling has sparked mixed reactions online, with some questioning the outcome while others say justice was served.
The case, which had gripped the public due to Mai Jeremaya’s high social media profile, now closes with more questions than answers.
