A 24-year-old Harare woman has appeared in court facing theft charges after she allegedly stole cash, clothing and other valuables worth US$3 600 from her employer.

Tariro Kasanzu appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo and was remanded while receiving treatment at hospital.

The complainant is Moleen Chingwaru of Warren Park D, Harare. Prosecutor Mr Takudzwa Jambawu alleged that in May this year, Chingwaru employed Kasanzu as a part-time house help.

The State alleges that between June and July 14, 2026, and on various occasions when the complainant was away at work, Kasanzu used a duplicate key to unlock the complainant’s bedroom door.

It is alleged that she stole a black striped wallet containing US$3 000 that had been kept inside a jacket in the wardrobe, several items of clothing and a wristwatch before leaving the premises.

The alleged theft was discovered on July 14 after a neighbour reportedly saw Kasanzu inside the complainant’s bedroom and alerted Chingwaru.

The complainant subsequently discovered that her cash and property were missing and reported the matter to the police.
