MATABELAND North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo expressed gratitude to the Second Republic for bringing electricity to Majindane, describing the development as a clear demonstration of Government’s commitment to inclusive development and improved livelihoods.
Speaking during the switch-on ceremony at Majindane Primary School in Nyamandlovu, Minister Moyo said the electrification project, which involved the construction of an eight-kilometre power line, was transforming the community and positioning it firmly on the path towards Vision 2030.
The project was implemented under the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) programme aimed at extending electricity to underserved rural communities across the country.
Minister Moyo said the availability of electricity would unlock numerous opportunities in education, business and social development.
“We now have power-supply, we saw that there is electricity in the classrooms. I now have to approach ICT Minister to seek for computers,” said Minister Moyo.
He said the electrification of Majindane was in line with the aspirations of the Second Republic and the recently passed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB 3), which seeks to enhance governance and development.
“The development is in line with CAB3 whose bill we passed in Parliament this week, so we say let President Mnangagwa continue leading us,” said Minister Moyo.
“For us as Majindane, we are already in 2030 as we have electricity,” said Minister Moyo.
The minister said the project was a practical expression of President Mnangagwa’s development philosophy of ensuring that no community is left behind.
“As Matabeleland North, we appreciate Government efforts in improving standards of living” stated Minister Moyo.
“This is also in line with President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind,” he said further.
Minister Moyo said access to reliable energy remained a critical pillar in socio-economic transformation, particularly in rural communities where electricity opens doors to modern learning, business growth and improved service delivery.
He said the importance of energy availability could not be over-emphasised, adding that electrification projects were bringing tangible benefits to communities across the province.
Minister Moyo urged the Rural Electrification Agency to continue expanding its footprint and accelerate power connections in remote parts of Matabeleland North.
“We urge REA to spread its wings to all corners of the province,” he said.
The electrification of Majindane Primary School and surrounding areas is expected to improve learning conditions, enhance security and stimulate economic activity, in line with the Government’s broader agenda of rural industrialisation and inclusive development.
