Majome hails football associations

chance to take part in the football festival at Rufaro yesterday.
The festival came at the end of the Women’s Football Com-Unity Seminar in Harare this week. The three-day seminar ended on Thursday. The festival started with the participants who took part in the seminar taking to the pitch before the Under-15 girls’ teams from SOS Children’s Village Zimbabwe and Mufakose came in to mark the end of the day.

Majome said football was an attractive brand and plays a vital role in uniting people from various backgrounds
“Football is an attractive brand laden with value that no one can underestimate. The various stakeholders who attended the seminar bear the testimony to football’s power to unite people.
“Football unites people, football heals the wounded, football builds bridges and football develops communities. The Girl Child occupies a special place in our society. In the declaration to the UN 4th World

Conference of Beijing 1995, the Girl Child was one of the 12 critical concerns.
“They need not continue being condemned to bleak futures. These young ladies are the future sport leaders. We should invest a lot of resources in honing the talent and enthusiasm of these girls into responsible stars who will develop, market Zimbabwe beyond our borders,” said Majome.

Zimbabwe Women’s Football chairperson, Mavis Gumbo, hailed Fifa for their support.
“Since Tuesday we have all been gathered at the Crowne Plaza sharing experiences and ideas and trying to find solutions that could help Zimbabwe Women’s football unlock the huge value in its brand.

“But this morning, what better way to put the icing on the cake that was manufactured since the start of the week than to watch our beautiful young girls sending a bold and clear message that ‘the future is football is really and truly feminine’.

“This is the practical example of the growth of local women’s football and let me assure you all at Fifa and my colleagues in the domestic football family that our women’s game has drawn valuable lessons from all that has been happenings around us this week,” said Gumbo.

Gumbo said it takes the will of the stakeholders for the sport to develop.
“Where there is a will there is a way and for Women’s football in Zimbabwe the will is definitely there and thank you all for helping us now identify more ways than one to grow our game.

“As we gather to see these young girls in action for us in administration and the players we believe this is just the first step towards our journey of a thousand miles in search for football glory.
“Who said an African team cannot win a World Cup, my sister Jacqui from Namibia is dreaming of having the Women’s World Cup being paraded in the streets of Windhoek and we share similar dreams.

“And today these Under-15 girls taking part in this festival showcase part of the huge dream that we have,” said Gumbo.
