THE newly formed Futsal Five-A-Side national league has received a major boost after Herentals College stepped in to provide branded playing kits for every team.
The 11-team league features Amabhubesi, Fox FC, Mia, TNS, Nedbank, Southwonder, Go-Boyz, Glen Stars, Mictech, Cowdray Park FC, and Sobukhazi FC.
“We are very grateful for the assistance from Herentals Group of Colleges,” said league chairperson Philani Banda. “All our affiliates are now fully kitted, thanks to the efforts of Zifa committee member Tafadzwa Benza. This gesture will go a long way.”
The kits made their debut on Tuesday during the annual Southern Region Heroes Day Five-A-Side tournament held at Bulawayo’s Football For Hope Centre. Youthful Go-Boyz emerged champions after defeating seasoned rivals Amabhubesi 2–0 in the final.
Captain Daniel Matambudzo and Thabani Mlilo scored the goals that secured Go-Boyz the floating trophy and medals. Their coach, Michael Gumede, expressed his pride in the team’s performance.

“It’s so pleasing, the boys have done well,” said Gumede. “It’s not the first time we’ve tasted success this year.
“Remember we also won the Independence Challenge Cup. We are slowly getting it right.”
On their way to the final, Go-Boyz beat Sobukhazi 2–0, while Amabhubesi edged TNS FC 2–1. Fox FC and Nedbank failed to turn up.
League chairperson Banda, who attended the tournament, praised the level of competition on display.
“We are happy with the level of competition.
“It’s unfortunate that two teams didn’t show up, but overall it was a good day.
“Well done to the winners, and we are grateful for the true spirit of sportsmanship we saw,” he said.
