Makandiwa: Key to the Promised Land

That conviction was the one that spurred them on and made them to toil through the adversities they encountered along the way. In the same way, as we seek to rebuild our economy it is untenable to pronounce economic policies without also rallying the mental and spiritual focus of a nation to a certain direction.
With corruption, nepotism, favouritism, tribalism and regionalism, no economic agenda can be fulfilled.
To correct such social ills might not need a monetary or fiscal policy but the Living Word. Here is where a man of difference by the name of Emmanuel Makandiwa comes into the picture.
Today you cannot stand up and mention the United States of America’s development without factoring in the role of the Christian society, even the reason for unconditional support for the Jews is faith-based.
Barack Obama’s rise to power is also directly linked to his closeness to Pastor Jeremiah from the Baptist Church in the state of Illinois.
Born in the backwaters of Muzarabani and facing the world without requisite academic credentials cannot be claimed to be a springboard for success. But the pastor only knew of the Word just like Peter and the other disciples in the Bible.
Today his sermons are having direct implications to the success of Zimbabwe and his message on the last all-night prayer at the National Sports Stadium was so revealing. His love for the nation is a marvel and his charisma smacks of modern-day Christianity.
He urged the flock to pray for the economy, peace and our needs as individuals. We cannot afford to have churches which spread the irrelevant word which does not seem to apply to our present situations.
When the anti-sanctions campaign was launched, he was there to bless the nation. When the political environment is fragile, he urges Christians to exhibit maturity. I see the prophet as a future driver of Brand Zimbabwe and he is to continue occupying a “de facto” position of a minister of religion through his relevance at national level.
Gone are the days when we would marvel at watching Pastor Chris of Christ Embassy preaching to overflowing auditoriums, Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church and Joyce Meyer. Prophet Makandiwa is surely introducing a new dimension to our faith levels and is proving how possible it is to achieve in the midst of “a valley of dry bones”.
It is time the spirit of jealousy be brought to rest as it had never raised anyone from the ashes of poverty. We cannot continue noticing foreign pastors being splashed on our local overlapping billboards. We need to have that patriotic spirit of believing in our fellow nationals notably when they are well meaning to us.
The economic ills which are currently bedevilling our Zimbabwe include unemployment, rampant poverty, high HIV prevalence rate and animosity from fellow nationals to our fellow brethren staying abroad and dilapidated infrastructure following a period of economic decline.
Most of our nationals had literally lost dignity and they need something more significant than a policy document to regain their traces.
We are an educated nation and there are times I believe we are losing a lot of business opportunities to foreigners notably those from West Africa and Asia. It doesn’t need an MBA degree qualification sometimes to discover opportunities but the Holy Spirit, that is my conviction.
Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa is proving to be a solution to a certain degree. He truly fits in the mind of a pioneer and the ground he has managed to break will always be remembered.
It had been long since we had thrown statistics around concerning economic solutions without a focus on qualitative factors which encompass social economics.
A lot of churches are expected to sprout in the midst of the unprecedented expansion of United Family International. Some of the church denominations might be riding on ill-conceived foundations of wooing crowds and making a fortune instantly.
So far, the fastest growing service sector in the economy is to do with the founding of church organisations and almost every corner of the central business district has a church, all Pentecostals with the same approach to worshipping.
After the civil unrest in Nigeria which saw millions fleeing the country to almost every corner of the world, Pentecostalism has become more pronounced in Africa than ever before.
The Nigerians were spreading the message of hope after years of learning that complaining against Abubakar or Sani Abacha was helpless. They started owning corner shops in Washington, opening churches in London and launching Nollywood to rival Hollywood.
They have been producing more movies every year in terms of quantities than both Hollywood and Bollywood.
However, the only folly about the Nigerian church leaders is that they are being implicated in various corruption scandals. We cannot repeat such mistakes but rather learn from them.
Our cities are littered with tertiary and university graduates that are unemployed, but despite this, these graduates are developing confidence and faith in their situations through the teachings and preaching of people like Prophet Makandiwa.
He is ameliorating such a demotivating state of affairs through playing his role of a spiritual father.
It’s not our duty as Christians to pass denigrating comments on the man of God, if we doubt his standing as a true Christian.
