THE return of Dynamos captain Frank Makarati appears to have stabilised the Glamour Boys who lacked leadership in his absence.
DeMbare lacked leadership when Mukarati was injured.
They failed to stamp their authority in the opening six matches of the season.
They registered just one win in those games, a 1-0 victory over minnows Bikita Minerals, the goal coming from the penalty spot.
They had conceded five goals, almost a third of the total number they let in the entire of last term.
Alarm bells were beginning to ring for coach Genesis “Kaka” Mangombe to step down.
And a loss for them against TelOne in their match day seven fixture at Rufaro yesterday would have left him in a precarious position.
But substitute Emmanuel Paga eased things for him with a sure win which earned DeMbare the full set of points.
Makarati started the Independence Cup final against Highlanders in Murambinda and DeMbare kept a clean sheet.
Yesterday, the former Ngezi Platinum Stars defender also partnered Donald Dzvinyai at centreback and they managed another clean sheet in the victory that left Mangombe a relieved man.
“I think our Independence Cup final win gave us a huge boost,” said Makarati.
“We just needed to get off the line and that is what seems to be happening now.
“I am happy to be back into the team. I was grounded by an injury and I have been missing playing the game that I love so much.
“It has been a painful period for me as I missed out in the opening six games of the season.
“My colleagues were doing exceptionally well but you know at times luck was never on our side.
“We were playing beautiful football but somehow, it’s been difficult for us to win games.”
The big defender said the Glamour Boys now need to keep the momentum.
“This is a marathon and we need to be consistent.
“We have won our game against TelOne but it was very difficult.
“We need to quickly recalibrate as we prepare for our midweek fixture against Ngezi Platinum Stars on Thursday.
“So, we have no time to celebrate but to prepare for that game.”
