ABOUT 1828 cases of theft have gone through courts just in Harare Province, the National Prosecution has said.

In a statement, the NPA said as of April 19, Harare, Chitungwiza, Epworth, Norton and Mbare courts have recorded 6800 various cases at the Magistrates’ Courts.

Only 3930 cases have been completed while 2870 are pending determination by the courts.

Some of the offences vary from robbery, indecent assault, assault, fraud, section 70, stock theft, criminal abuse of duty, unlawful entry and dangerous drugs act among others.

There have been 1521 cases of domestic violence recorded, making it the second highest number of offences recorded in Harare Province.

The NPA says it remains focused on its efforts to combat crime after 991 cases of assault were also recorded during the period under review.

There have been 721 robberies recorded while 499 cases of unlawful entry have been prosecuted.

At least, nine cases of unlawful termination of pregnancy have been recorded in the province making it the lowest in Harare Province.

The intensive fight against drugs and substance abuse has seen 276 cases going through the prosecution process.

The province has also recorded 10 cases in breach of the ZESA Act, PTC Act (21), Data Protection Act (17), Parks and Wildlife Act (34) and Money Laundering (15).
