ZIFA Southern Region Division One outfit Bulawayo Chiefs have pulled off a major coup, snapping up Godfrey Makaruse from Castle Lager Premiership side Scottland FC on a permanent deal.
Once touted as one of Scottland’s marquee signings, Makaruse has been shown the exit door after being axed from their final squad list for the second half of the season.
Now he’s back in Bulawayo, reunited with familiar faces at Amakhosi Amahle, who are chasing a quick return to the top-flight league.
The move has stunned some fans, with the midfield general having been unveiled with much fanfare by Scottland at the start of the season. But sources say lack of game time and tactical differences led to his omission from the 25-man squad.
Back at Chiefs, Makaruse is expected to bring stability, experience and leadership as they gun for promotion.
He knows what it takes to win. He’s played at the highest level and brings that mentality into the dressing room.
The former FC Platinum and Highlanders player is no stranger to pressure, having featured in big games across the country. With Bulawayo Chiefs looking to re-establish themselves, his return could be the missing piece in their promotion puzzle.
