A 47-YEAR-OLD man from Makokoba suburb in Bulawayo was sentenced to six months in jail after being found in possession of a machete.

Thulani Mhlanga appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Maxwell Ncube. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months imprisonment, with two months suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit any offence of a similar nature during this period.

The remaining four months of imprisonment were suspended on condition that he completes 140 hours of community service at ZRP Tredgold.  The court heard that on 1 July 2024, at around midnight, Mhlanga went to a local hotel situated in the city centre.

Upon arrival, he pulled out a machete with a wooden handle from under his clothes. The blade of the machete measured approximately 40 centimetres.

Seeing the knife, the informant at the entrance alerted a security guard who apprehended Mhlanga and took him to the police, leading to his arrest.
