ZANU-PF National Assembly candidate for Makokoba Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube yesterday said he ventured into politics not to acquire wealth but to work for the development of the constituency. In an interview yesterday, Rtd Col Dube said he had a passion for Makokoba and the constituency was poised for a leap forward in terms of development when voted into office in Wednesday’s election.
“I have been in the Government service for more than 33 years and have never appeared in a court of law except during the liberation era. My plans are not to abuse Government funds but to ensure that the people of Makokoba are empowered and enjoy a stake in the country’s wealth,” said Rtd Col Dube.
He said his development policies would determine if the electorate should vote for him into office or not.
“People have been complaining of my campaign methods, but there are no laid down rules on how to campaign as long as one does not incite hate language and is fair when campaigning.
“The elections are expensive and there are instances I used my personal funds so that people know me and I believe my policies are the ones which will determine me being voted into power,” said Rtd Col Dube.
He said he was maintaining his post as chief executive officer of the Zimbabwe Defence Industries until further assignment by the Government.
“I gave up my post as Marange Resources chairman because I feel I have a cause to address problems in Makokoba. The post I am maintaining is of being chief executive officer of the Zimbabwe Defence Industries until further assignment depending on whether I win or lose the elections,” said Rtd Col Dube.
Meanwhile Rtd Col Dube and Matabeleland South Governor Angeline Masuku also addressed Bethesda Church of God Ichibi Lokuphila congregants yesterday.
Addressing the congregants Governor Masuku said it was time for Makokoba constituents to vote for Rtd Col Dube.
“Let us all spread the word about Rtd Col Dube and ensure we do not repeat the same mistake of not voting him into power. “Remember that on 31 July we are not voting for Dube as an individual but for a party that has the people at heart and a clear vision which is Zanu-PF,” she said.
“Let us also give all our candidates the same support because if we have a Zanu-PF councillor, Member of Parliament and President voted into power we are guaranteed of developmental change.”
