Police in Mashonaland West have arrested a 37-year-old Makombe man, Henry Nkomo, for cattle rustling.
Sixteen cattle have been recovered.
The herd had been stolen from Sostina Tapera’s plot at Mtunzi Farm in Mhangura and Kilford Tobayiwa’s Plot 19, Highway Farm in Chinhoyi on Wednesday.
Acting provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Effort Chapoto confirmed the recovery of the 16 cattle.
He said on Wednesday at around 4 am, Tapera woke up for her morning prayers and discovered that her cattle kraal was empty.
“She then advised her son Wonder Ruvengo who quickly made a report at Chinhoyi Rural Police Station,” he said.
“A team of police officers and the Canine Unit tracked the cattle the whole day. While still tracking, the team received a tip-off that the suspects were herding cattle at Farm 184, Chitomborwizi.”
Assistant Inspector Chapoto said the police ambushed the suspects and managed to arrest Nkomo, leading to the recovery of twelve cattle.
Police also recovered four cows that had been stolen from Tobayiwa.
Nkomo’s two accomplices, Lovejoy Rwizi of Mtunzi Farm and Pardon Musina of Chitomborwizi are on the run.
The value of the stolen cattle is US$5 700 and they were all recovered.
