Makopa magic ignites Gamecocks revival

FORMER Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Chicken Inn, will be out to build on last weekend’s explosive return to form, when they host Greenfuel at Luveve Stadium on Saturday.

Fresh from a thrilling 4-2 away triumph over PSL newcomers Kwekwe United, the Gamecocks are buzzing with confidence, and much of that is thanks to the red-hot Brighton Makopa, who bagged all four goals in that match to announce himself in emphatic style.

“It’s still work in progress,” said Chicken Inn secretary, Tavengwa Hara. “We remain optimistic that, with the help of the coaches, the team will continue to find its rhythm. We’re not under any pressure, it’s about patience. We’re just happy the goals finally came. That’s the fruit of hard work and team play.”

The Gamecocks are also hoping to welcome back their forceful striker Brian Muza, who has been sidelined for the past few weeks due to injury. Muza is expected to rejoin seasoned campaigners, Michael Charamba and Makopa, in leading Chicken Inn’s attacking charge.

Meanwhile, GreenFuel head into this encounter after a goalless draw against Manica Diamonds. They’ll be desperate to find goals of their own if they are to stop the revitalised Bulawayo side.

In other fixtures, Highlanders, who are coming off a 1-1 home draw against FC Platinum, face a tricky trip to Nyamhunga Stadium for a clash against the unpredictable ZPC Kariba. Kelvin Kaindu’s men will look to Vice-captain Andrew Mbeba, now fit again, along with midfielders Mason Mushore, Mackinnon Mushore, Melikhaya Ncube, and forwards Reason Sibanda and Brighton Ncube for inspiration.

Elsewhere, FC Platinum host Bikita Minerals at Maglas, TelOne battle Yadah at Ascot, while Herentals take on Ngezi Platinum Stars in a tasty encounter at Rufaro Stadium.

Defending champions, Simba Bhora, lock horns with Triangle United at Wadzanayi, Manica Diamonds welcome Scottland FC at Sakubva and MWOS clash with Kwekwe United at Ngoni.

But the biggest spectacle of the weekend comes on Sunday, as Harare giants Dynamos and CAPS United renew their age-old rivalry in a blockbuster derby at Rufaro Stadium, a fixture that promises fireworks and a potential full house.
