Makumbe High School in Buhera has launched an eight-track gospel CD to celebrate 100 years of the school’s existence. Some of the songs on the album are “Tionane”, “Wakakosha”, “Basa rakanaka”, “Makanaka”, “Vimba naJesu”, “She Wedenga”, and Basa rakanaka Instrumental”. The songs were recorded at Clive Mono Mukundu Studios.

The executive producer, Ely Mhungu, said the album is made up of pure gospel music and one educational piece, “Ndinoramba”.

Mhungu said their songs would take the Christians to a new level of holiness as their songs encourage Christians to have faith in God and also that it is the first school to sing original songs not from hymn books.

“These songs inspire the Christians to have faith in God and there is an educational song, “Ndinoramba”, which educates the teenagers on drug abuse,” he said.

“I am so happy to produce this CD for my former school, they are the best, we only did one take and it came out a master piece,” he added
He added that the CD has been the best selling at Diamond Studios and has so far sold over 1 000 copies.

Despite that the group is gaining popularity and this has done well for the school which is sometimes mistaken for Makumbi High School in Domboshava.

“We did a professional job so that our music sells like any other gospel artiste’s. We hired a lot of professional instrument players, Clive Monomukundu was the co-producer,” said Mhungu.

Some of the choir members could not hide their excitement for the experience shared as they now stood to be counted among recording artistes.

“It makes me so proud to be a Makumbe student, and this initiative has given hope and that any dream can come true,” said Vanessa Nyambizi a member of the choir.

“It is so nice to hear your voice with instruments playing on the CD and when it is played on radio it is much better because everyone will be listening,” said Primrose Makoni

Choirmaster Takudzwa Muronda also sang praises for the choir saying their music was going to sell like no other high school albums.

“It has always been my dream which has actualised with the help of the headmaster who is very passionate about music and finding potential in students, I am proud of my choir,” said Muronda.

“It is the most prominent activity at school comparing to other activities and the school choir has received so many trophies,” he added
The choir won first place at the choral competition at district level.
