pageant held in Dortmund, Germany on Saturday.
The vivacious beauty first did the nation proud by becoming one of the top 10 most beautiful ladies in the Miss World pageant that was held in London last year.
She was part of the 45 ladies drawn from around the world and this time came up tops to claim the second spot, in a contest which becomes her last international before she hands the national crown to the next Miss Zimbabwe winner expected to be unveiled on March 24.
Mushandu began her modelling sojourn when she participated in the Miss Models Extravaganza in 2009, which she clinched and also represented the country in the Miss Southern Africa contest.
She was first discovered by Mercy Mushaninga, a former model, who now runs an agency called Zim Gossip.
Although she went to Germany with the hope of clinching the title, the second spot in the contest has defined happiness for modelling fanatics and the nation alike, who had last tasted modelling glory back in 2001 when Brita Masalethulini came up tops in the Miss Malaika beauty contest.
On her facebook wall Mushandu said, “First runner up … not so bad,” and had congratulations messages from many people including a license holder of a new pageant, Miss Heritage World, Zimbabwe, Tare Munzara pouring in on her wall.
The win proved critics wrong as some like Ronald from Afridi modelling agency had said, “Malaika Mushandu lacks proper grooming especially in the types of walks expected at the international stage,” before her participation in Germany.
The Model of the World pageant is an international search for models that are talented and have fashion knowledge, and began in 1993 a chance to share universal values and define common ideal of elegance.
