adminIn Zimbabwe, malaria is experienced throughout the year, but cases begin in February and peak in April before they start to go down in May. Malaria trends for this year show that cases started to peak in February unlike in the preceding two years.
In the previous two years malaria cases in February were below 10 000 but this year they peaked at over 20 000. Last year the country recorded 8 547 cases and 13 deaths from malaria nationally.
Although cases were beginning to go down, they were still high compared to trends from previous years. Last week total of 15 993 cases and 17 deaths were reported in the country.
Although national malaria incidence continues to decrease from a high of 13,5 percent in 2000 to 2,2 percent last year, the country continued to record cases along the borders.
