Anita Yusof, a Malaysian woman who left her country on December 1 last year to embark on a tour of Africa on a motorbike, has described Zimbabwe as a beautiful country with friendly people.

She has visited Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana.

In an interview with The Herald at the Malaysian Embassy on Friday, Ms Yusof said she had opted to travel by motorbike to make her expedition more adventurous.

“So far my experience has been very good and I am enjoying every moment,” she said. “In 2018 when I first came to Zimbabwe I only went to Victoria Falls. What I can say is the driving etiquette is good.

“I never felt threatened on the road. In certain countries the driving attitude is so bad that you feel threatened by other vehicles, but not in Zimbabwe.”

Ms Yusof was full of praise for Africa saying it had rich, diverse cultures and an abundance of wildlife which cannot be found anywhere in the world.

She said as a Muslim, she did not celebrate Christmas, hence she spent her holiday on the road.

“I did not celebrate Christmas because I am a Muslim, but on Christmas Day I was in Mozambique, Maputo,” she said.

“There is a quote that says you can find Asia in Europe, you can find Europe in the US, but you cannot find Africa elsewhere. Africa can only be found in Africa and that is so true because Africa is so rich in culture and so colourful and also I have seen lots of wildlife and these are the things you cannot find in other places.”

Ms Yusof she said her next destinations include Malawi, Tanzania and Sudan, before making a final stop in Cairo, Egypt.
