Maldini mourned

MILAN. — The world of football has paid tribute to former Italy and AC Milan legend Cesare Maldini, with a host of former team-mates and future club representatives joining family members at his funeral.

Maldini’s son Paolo, paid his respects with his mother Marisa at an emotional gathering in Saint Ambrose Basilica, Milan yesterday morning.

Maldini, who won four Serie A titles and one European Cup with the Rossoneri between 1954 and 1963, died at the age of 84 on Sunday.

The Italian also enjoyed great success as Milan manager, winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup and Coppa Italia between 1972 and 1973 before a defeat to Verona in 1974 cost him his job.

Maldini’s legend extended to the national side, helping Italy to World Cup success in 1982 as the team’s assistant manager and he got the chance to coach his son when he was manager between 1996 and 1998. — Mailonline.
