“It is expected to recommence on October 6 2011, for comrade Malema to call further witnesses and final arguments will be presented on October 8 2011,” said Derek Hanekom, the chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) national disciplinary committee.
Malema and his deputies are facing various charges of misconduct, which include “sowing divisions” within the party.
Hanekom said the committee would then “consider all four cases and announce its findings in due course”.
Their disciplinary hearing was marred by violent protests when it started three weeks ago, with Malema supporters clashing with police outside the ANC headquarters in the city centre.
The ANC was forced to move the venue. The charge of bringing the ANC into disrepute stems from Malema’s call last month for regime change in neighbouring Botswana, which he said had a “puppet government” that was “in full cooperation with imperialists.”
Malema later apologised for the remarks after a public rebuke from the ANC.
Last week a court found Malema guilty of hate speech for singing a song whose lyrics mean “shoot the white farmer”.
