encounter at Morris Depot.
Mambas are now on 36 points, and shot to ninth position on the log.
Mambas got their goals through captain Convenience Hungwe, who grabbed a brace in the first half, Innocent Nyoni, Peter Kachirika, Proud Khumalo and Amidu Abbas.
Mambas could have scored an early goal a minute into the game when Abbas’s effort was cleared from the line by Brighton Tuwaya.
Seven minutes later, Hungwe scored from close range off a corner from Abbas to push his team into the lead.
He was on target again in the 21st minute, firing the ball home with a long-range effort.
With Mambas scoring two goals in the space of 15 minutes, Blue Ribbon’s coach Misheck Chidzambwa was forced to make a change as he took out first choice goalkeeper Tapiwa Zvaita replacing him with Earnmore Hamandishe to tighten his defence.
However, the substitution seemed to have increased Blue Ribbon’s misery as they conceded four more goals.
Mambas, who enjoyed greater ball possession, continued with their dominance with Nyoni weighing in with the third goal when he headed home a good cross from Khumalo.
The police side went to the breather leading 3-0.
Two minutes into the second half, Blue Ribbon could have found a consolation goal when they were awarded a penalty after James Jam was pushed by Kasimero Chimbadzwa inside the box.
But Daniel Kamunenga failed to convert the penalty as his effort hit the right post.
The home team, who had the upperhand from the onset, continued from where they had left off in the first half with Kachirika scoring the fourth goal in the 63rd minute after he was fed by Khumalo.
Two minutes later, Khumalo, who had a good day in the office, headed home a cross from Abbas to make it 5-0.
“Abbas sealed the his side’s scoring when he fired the ball home in the 72nd minuteafter he received a cross from Sebastian Mutizirwa as Mambas collected maximum points to drive away from the relegation zone only one match to go before the end of the season.
Mambas’ coach John “Toto” Ncube was a happy man after yesterday’s victory and said they were also looking for another when they take on Motor Action in their last match of the season.
“I am happy with the three points. The boys played well. Since we came back from DRC, the guys have been doing well. However, we are not yet safe, we have to win our last game against Motor Action.
“The chances of winning are bright, we will be playing at home and it should give us an advantage,” said Ncube.
His counterpart Chidzambwa was a disappointed man and could not say much about his team’s poor performance.
“Maybe that’s what they call a bad spell. I have run out of words. Now it (the position) depends on how the other teams have played,” said Chidzambwa.
