Kudakwashe Moyo was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure.

Moyo was remanded in custody to today for his bail hearing.

It is the State’s case that on November 8, at around 6pm, Moyo and the complainant were near Mbare Cemetery for a prayer session.

Moyo then stole the complainant’s silver Nissan VIP Ex Saloon motor vehicle and drove away.

Inside the vehicle was the complainant’s son, aged four, who was sleeping in the back seat.

Among other valuables in the vehicle was a Nokia cellphone and a tools box.

The court heard that Moyo took the child to his girlfriend, Petronella Mabhandi, in Stoneridge Park, Harare.

It is alleged that Moyo told Mabhandi that the child was his late brother’s kid whom he was taking care of.

After about 12 days, Mabhandi became suspicious of her boyfriend’s behaviour and she searched the vehicle and found a cellphone.

Moyo later took the car to an unknown place.

Mabhandi contacted the complainant leading to the recovery of the child on November 20. Three days later, Moyo returned to his girlfriend’s place and was arrested.

He led police to Nyakudanga Village in Mutoko where he had left the car.

Some valuables were recovered in Epworth where he had sold them.

Zebedia Bofu appeared for the State.
