Man (24) jailed 13 years for raping sister (28)

magistrate Ms Esthere Chivasa last week sentenced the man to 15 years but suspended three years on condition of good behaviour.
The man, who is aged 24, threatened to kill the sister after raping her, saying he feared she would report him to the police.

But the sister managed to convince him that she would not disclose the matter to anyone.
The man, a radio technician, pleaded not guilty to rape charges, but he was convicted because of overwhelming evidence.
In passing sentence, Ms Chivasa said the complainant’s evidence was convincing and she did not change her story during cross-examination.

She said the complainant also managed to tell the court the explicit details of the events.
Ms Chivasa said the only mitigatory factor was that the man was a youthful first offender.

Prosecutor, Ms Rufaro Mhandu, managed to prove that on July 29 last year at around 7pm, the man went to his sister’s house, but did not find her.
When they met, the man asked her sister to accompany him so that she sees where he was staying.

The sister (28) agreed and walked from Belapasi Farm to Jacha, Epworth.
Along the way, they passed through a river and after crossing it, the man got hold of his sister’s hand and demanded that she sleeps with him.

The sister thought his brother was joking and refused.
The man then struck his sister with an empty bottle and beat her before raping her.
