A 55-YEAR-OLD Mutasa man went berserk after cattle strayed into his maize field and struck them with an axe causing deep injuries in the process.
Thomas Nyapokoto from Hombe Village under Chief Mutasa was recently convicted of malicious damage to property when he appeared before Nyanga provincial magistrate, Mr Ignatio Mhene.
He was sentenced to three months imprisonment, of which one month was suspended on condition of good behaviour, while the other two months were suspended on condition that he pays $150 as compensation to the owner of the cattle.
On March 21, Tapiwa Mazingire and Anesu Mazingire were driving their cattle from the pastures and as they were passing Thomas Nyapokoto’s homestead, five beasts strayed into the latter’s maize field. Nyapokoto grabbed an axe and struck the cattle on their backs.
The axe wielding Nyapokoto also chased the Mazingire brothers.
