A NYANGA man hanged himself with a rope soon after confessing to his family members that he was in possession of a goblin that had killed 11 people. Silas Nyamhute from Bvukutwa Village under Chief Saunyama took his own life last Wednesday as he could not fathom taking responsibility of the misfortunes ravaging the family. His death follows last Saturday’s cleansing ceremony held by the family after they hired a prophet to exorcise evil spirits troubling them.
The family was facing a series of misfortunes such as numerous deaths and mental illnesses.

During the cleansing ritual, the prophet told them that all the misfortunes haunting them were being caused by a goblin which Silas had taken from a traditional healer in Tangwena area.

The prophet revealed that the goblin had killed 11 family members which he all called out by names.
Silas confessed to possessing the goblin.

Apparently ashamed of his deeds, he hanged himself four days later in his bedroom, placing the troublesome goblin by his side.
His wife, Maria Munyau, vowed to get rid of the goblin and cleanse the family.

“We are prepared to sell everything here so that we can return this thing (goblin). We have suffered enough,” she said.
When the news crew visited the homestead last Saturday, Nyamhute’s sons had taken the goblin to a prophet for some prayers.
