MUTARE’s sole top-flight rugby league outfit, Mutare Sports Club will host Police Defenders tomorrow (Saturday) in a potential thriller. The match kicks off at 3pm.
Marist Panthers and a developmental side will be the main match’s curtain-raisers. Police Defenders currently sit on sixth-place on the log, while the hosts are on fifth place.
This will be the second match in the second-round of the top-flight Northern Rugby League.
Last weekend was a fixture-free to accommodate the Confederation of African Rugby Africa Cup Division 1A tournament match which saw the
Sables (Zimbabwe 15s national side) draw first blood 28-20 against Kenya’s Simbas.
The national rugby league action resumes with another potential thriller when the flawless log leaders, Sportivo (HSC) pit debutants, Old Johanians at their favourite hunting ground, while defending champions, Old Hararians will take on Southern City.
Old Georgians have a bye.
MSC coach, Mackenzie Munetsi, said tomorrow’s match was a must win to put points on the board.
“If we want to maintain our hopes alive of ending the season in the top four then this match is a must win.
“We have the home advantage and we have beat Police before on several occasions, so that should be a morale boost.
“We will, however, need to maximise points as this has been costing us dearly in all our previous matches.
“We would fail to kick through try and penalty conversions, but we have been working on strategic plays and that is what we will do tomorrow,” said Munetsi.
