A foreign man and his Zimbabwean accomplice, who were allegedly found in possession of 13 grammes of cocaine and 31 ecstasy tablets, were denied bail yesterday.
Lambat Suhail (26) and Courage Damson (30) are facing charges of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.
In his ruling, Harare regional magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo said possession of cocaine was a serious offence.
He said claims by the accused persons that police planted the drugs at their office hold no water.
The magistrate also said the fact that Suhail claimed that he was given sex enhancing pills by the Citizens Coalition for Change Councillor Cecilia Chimbiri shows that he is not new to drugs and there is a high probability that he is a drug dealer.
“He is not a stranger to drugs, he confirmed that he was given Silver Bullets, sex enhancing pills, additionally he was found with the alleged drugs at 7 pm when everyone else had gone home.
“The police recovered dangerous drugs worth US$1 000 and for the record those found in possession of dangerous drugs face a lengthy imprisonment term if found guilty.
“The State case is solid. Cocaine is highly addictive. If the supply chain is not attended to, it will destroy a whole generation.
“It is the court’s considered view that the accused are not good candidates for bail, hence the application for bail pending trial is hereby dismissed,” Mr Mapfumo ruled.
The matter was postponed to October 14 pending finalisation of investigations.
