A 20-year-old Harare man is being accused of allegedly raping two women, who he suspected to be lesbians.

The man, who denies the rape allegations, claims this was just an elaborate challenge to try and prove that the duo have sexual feelings for men.

According to State papers, one of the women ended up falling pregnant.

The accused is facing two counts of rape and appeared before Harare Regional Magistrate Sandra Mupindu.

In his defence the accused told the court that the two women had always claimed to be lesbians and had been known “to be boyfriend and girlfriend” in their community.

He told the court that on the day in question the two complainants challenged him to prove that, indeed, they were lesbians.

Prosecutor Lovet Muringwa told the court that on December 20, last year, the two complainants went to the accused person’s house.

After exchanging greetings, the accused person took the first complainant into his bedroom and locked the door from inside.

The State claims he then allegedly raped the accused.

Later, according to the State, the accused took the second woman into his bedroom and allegedly raped her again.

In January this year, one of the complainant’s mother noticed that she was having stomach pains.

She took her to Damafalls Clinic in Ruwa where it was confirmed that she was pregnant.

The mother interviewed the complainant who revealed the matter to her.

The complainant’s mother decided to file a report to the police on February 4 after attempts to have the accused accept responsibility for the pregnancy failed.
