A 34-year-old man is being accused of stealing 12 tonnes of lead moulds worth US$24 000.

He allegedly sold them to Chloride (Pvt) Ltd Company.

Batsirai Sora of Epworth was released on $20 000 bail when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Evelyn Mashavakure.

He was remanded to September 19.

It is alleged than on August 8, at around 5pm at 82 and 83 Sunway City Industrial area, Batsirai Sora and Tatenda Chipunza, who is still on the run, went to the premises.

They asked for warehouse keys from the security guard, who was manning the property, under the pretext that they were at work.

The duo then loaded 12 tonnes of lead moulds and left the premises.

Easy Count Investments managing director, Losson Mutongwiza, realised that some stock was missing.

He then inquired from the security guard, who told him that some “workers” had collected the stock.

They realised that the security guard had been duped and reported the matter to Rhodesville police.

On August 11, Mutongwiza got a tip-off that Sora had sold the lead moulds to Chloride Company.

On August 17, Mutongwiza was informed that Sora was at Chloride Company, and went with the police.

They found Sora still at the company’s premises and he was arrested.

Only US$2 000 was recovered.

He will be back in court on September 19 for trial.
