THE man who impregnated a 14-year-old who died due to complications after giving birth early this month has been arrested.
Tinashe Chibuwe, who was on the run, was arrested and taken to court facing allegations of having sex with a minor. He appeared in the Chivhu Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody.
The deceased girl, Delight Masomere’s uncle, Norris Jones Matarirano, said his niece was the second of Chibuwe’s three wives.
Chibuwe is a member of the Johane Marange Apostolic Church sect, and his third wife is also 14-years-old.
Matarirano said the family wanted justice for Delight as she was an under-age girl when she was married off to Chibuwe.
“Some of us did not even know that she was married. We thought she was in school.
“Now we want justice for her and for all the other girls who are victims of such. We are happy that Chibuwe has been arrested and we hope justice will prevail,” he said.
Girl child rights activists have time and again raised concerns over a surge in under-age girls that die giving birth.
