A 40-year-old man was on Tuesday arrested for raping a commercial sex worker in Mabvuku.
George Baisai approached the 37-year-old commercial sex worker at around 11pm when she was standing behind Dumisani Bar, Kamunhu Shops, Mabvuku, looking for clients. George requested for her services for the night and the two agreed a fee of US$20. However, on the way to George’s home, he attacked and raped her.
The incident took place on Saturday and, on Tuesday, the sex worker saw him and was helped by members of the public to get him arrested.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest saying the victim has since been referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical examination.
“Police arrested a Tafara man for allegedly raping a commercial sex worker,” said Insp Chakanza.
“Circumstances are that the complainant is a commercial sex worker.
“The two walked towards accused person’s house and when they reached Munene Street in Mabvuku, accused person grabbed complainant by the neck and instructed her not to make noise.
“He raped her once without protection and disappeared into the darkness leaving the complainant at the scene.
“Complainant did not file a report.
“On Tuesday the complainant positively identified the accused person in Mabvuku area and he advised the mob that apprehended him and brought him to ZRP Mabvuku,” said Insp Chakanza.
